School

youthchairYes!  The school year has started again.  Many students don’t feel like that.  I just had Elle come to me with her Math and with her quivering lips.  What is 92x8?  “I’ve been trying to do this for aaages!”  Ahhh… learning is sometimes

With the start of the new school year, the students are back.  It was nice to be reminded of how much I love some of these guys!  We had many new faces also turn out Friday – nice kids, too.  That is once again in pretty stark contrast to the youth group from another tech college we have Sunday nights.  The kids from there are a rough bunch.  In the pic to the left, they were seeing how many people they could fit on one “poor” chair.

I planted some strawberry plants in our garden Saturday morning.  It was with mixed feelings.  We started a small strawberry farm in a nearby village several years ago and travelled 6 hours to purchase plants – which turned out to NOT be the plants claimed.  The strawberry plants I purchased Friday are good pure Selva plants.  I also know that having them near our home should ensure that these don’t get stolen and sold by unscrupulous neighbors.  We still have the house and property out there and if we find someone to work it, may yet start it up again.  It provided work for a good many people over the three years we ran it and allowed young Christians to “live alongside” some of us older Christians – a healthy situation from a spiritual growth perspective.

Pris is still going to Kiev three times a week.  She feels like it is helping, but is still in a lot of pain.  The pain hasn’t diminished… although she says that it is a slightly different sort of pain now.  We are still hopeful that she will see some good change.

uraLast week, we went out to Kaharlyk, where we lived for five years, to celebrate the 45th birthday of one of the men in the church there.  The leaders in the church there have arrived at the same conclusions we have… namely; spiritual growth occurs naturally in a setting where new Christians work alongside each other and with older Christians.  They are forging ahead with bio-fuel, collecting more and more oil from the McDonald’s franchises in Kiev. I actually played two games of cricket with them a couple of weeks ago and loved every minute of it.  I’d decided that if I couldn’t hack it or couldn’t do reasonably well, I would hang up the boots for good.  I’m feeling like I can’t wait until next year’s season starts!  I must say that simply hanging out with Wayne and Ura is also something I look forward to doing more of!

We will have an interesting question put to people this Wednesday night for our home-group time.  “When can you stop obeying your parents?”  Some believe that offspring of parents must always obey their parents.  The majority don’t agree with this.  It will be an interesting discussion.  I love getting together with Christians around God’s Word.  I accept that not all Christians love doing this, but I don’t understand why not.

… a double-edged sword which pierces to core of our very being, revealing truth and shining a light on the future…

… the bride of Christ who, in spite of blemishes, is nonetheless extremely attractive…

It’s a great mix.
