40 candles

IMG_2424Priscilla is 40 and not just more beautiful but also prettier than when she was 20.  How does that happen?

We had plans to celebrate out on the cliff-top with about 30 guests but the wind put paid to that plan.  It was the windiest day of the year!  We quickly changed venues and had it in the Lighthouse café and enjoyed the time immensely.

It is so nice to relax with people who love the Lord and with whom you enjoy unity!

The trees are gifting us with sweet delights again.  The cherries are the first fruit of the summer and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that some of the boys came to youth group last Friday just for the cherries!  Our two large trees give gorgeous fruit and cause just about everyone who visit to take a detour via the tree!

Today, I bought about 18kg of strawberries from the market and Pris made strawberry jam.  We made double what we need so that we can share with those who… don’t make it.  The smells!

IMG_2448Funnily enough, the only picture I have of meeting downtown is of us setting up.  I took this photo so that I could remember where the buckets go to catch the drips from the ceiling!  The roof leaks after every decent rain.  Our meetings have so far been fairly poorly attended.  It is somewhat ironic that instead of seeing more non-Christians come out, we have seen a reduction in the numbers of Christians faithfully attending, but those who have come have been an encouragement and been encouraged.  This week-end, we are celebrating “ICED TEA DAY”.  Who would have guessed, eh?  There is an iced tea day.  We have a couple of artists coming down from Kiev who are gifted singers and they will add to the local talent.  Looking forward to it.

I learned how to steal a car yesterday.  Someone had tried to steal ours by inserting a screwdriver into the ignition and turning it… thankfully just ruining the ignition.  Ura, our talented and often tipsy mechanic came down and showed me how to remove the ignition shaft with a chisel and hammer.  I was amazed at how easy it was.  On the subject of thievery… we’ve had a number of thefts recently.  Ultimately, God owns the stuff on a thousand hills, including all He has seen fit to allow us to use.  Although it still rankles a bit when thieves steal and destroy, allowing a root of bitterness to spring up in our hearts just isn’t an option.  It’s definitely a shame that bitterness is so insidious!

This Friday, we are having another outreach type “do”.  This one will be at the café and will involve… lots of people having lots of fun.  I’ll let you know how it went.
